The £105 billion housing market gap caused by Help-to-Buy being filled

LONDON: According to research by Gradual Homeownership provider Wayhome, as the final Help to Buy deadline draws near, the programme has already assisted over 375,000 homebuyers in getting on the property ladder, with £23.7 billion in loans issued helping to facilitate the purchase of properties worth £105.4 billion. A total of 375,654 transactions have been completed through the Help to Buy programme, with over £10.3 billion in real estate purchased and a total of £23.6 billion in equity loans granted.

With 18.1% of all Help to Buy transactions taking place in the South East, the region has had the most influence from the programme. Nevertheless, buyers in the East of England (13.2%), North West (11.6%), South West (11.3%), and East Midlands (10.9%) have all benefited to varying degrees.

Now that the government is responsible for finding a solution, some would argue that it is their obligation given that one of the major causes of the skyrocketing cost of housing is their failure to build enough of them.
