London is regarded as the UK's hipster capital, and with an estimated 325 independent stores, it has by far the most options for would-be hipster homebuyers.

Yet, despite having a far larger population, there are only 3.7 independent businesses for every 100,000 residents, and with an average property price of £542,311, the city is 84% more costly to buy a home than the UK average at the moment.

Leeds has an average property price that is about 16% less than the national average and has 72 independent stores overall, which places it third on the list. With an 809,036-person population, there are just 8.9 independent stores for per 100,000 inhabitants.

Moreover, the city has 53 independently owned businesses, or 21 per 100,000 residents, which places it second on the list of cities behind Bristol.
