Highway pavement framework awarded to a dozen companies for £1.3 billion

ENGLAND: National Highways has announced the 12 companies it will work with to complete the £1.3 billion worth of contracts for the upkeep of road surfaces on major A-roads and motorways in England. (Reported by news source)

Nine lots make up the framework, and the four suppliers picked are all considered SMEs. Over 8% or £100 million of the total planned spending will go to these companies.

The new framework gives carbon reduction more attention, and organizations submitting bids agree to annually undertake carbon reduction activities during the term of the contract.

The Net Zero Carbon Plan, which guides all of our activities today and in the future, will also be supported by these contracts.

As part of its long-term environmental strategy, National Highways is dedicated to reducing carbon emissions from construction and maintenance to net-zero by 2040.

The third Road Investment Strategy will assist National Highways with the new framework (RIS 3). 2025 marks the end of the current strategy, RIS 2.
