Edinburgh Scottish Widow Site – cleared out in 2020 might face the construction of 200 houses now

Edinburgh: The site cleared out two years ago used to be an office space for a pension company, might finally witness some construction work within its boundaries, reported a news source.

Edinburgh’s former Scottish Widows site might be converted into a metropolitan hub with the construction of over 200 new houses and offices if the proposals are approved. The plans were forwarded to the city council this week so the iconic building which has laid empty for the past two years can be utilized once again.

Schroder’s capital real estate has shed light upon their proposed plans which discuss transforming the current building into “sustainable offices” alongside the addition of new housing. Visualization of the plans shows that the proposed new building will retain its iconic brown structure since it has a class A listed status in the city.

A new residential quarter would also be built containing around 200 flats, which would require the demolition of some parts of the historic building. However, it would be made sure that the historical features of the building are unharmed and preserved. With part of the office’s ancillary buildings to be demolished, along with the current car park, the residential flats would be a separate build from the former Scottish widows’ block
