SCOTLAND: After the national government backed Labour MSP Alex Rowley's bill earlier this month, new legislation aiming at implementing a nationwide mandate for the application of passive house design principles in all new housing developments is gaining pace in Scotland. (Reported by news source)

The Scottish government's approach is really forward-thinking, and it is a great reaction to the proposals made by the Scottish Climate Assembly in 2021, according to a statement from the UK's Passivhaus Trust.

Stirlingshire recently saw the completion of the nation's first-ever passive house social housing development, and soon Glasgow will see the start of a larger project that will be finished in time for the first set of mandates to go into effect in late-2023.

Although Rowley has stated he would prefer to see progress made a little more quickly, Scotland has set a goal of making all of its buildings net-zero by the year 2045.
