Birmingham Housing Authority - Plans to add more than just housing to the Southtown Court renovation under consideration

Birmingham: With the renovation of the Southtown Court underway, the Birmingham Housing Authority plans to add more than just homes to their renovation project, reported a news source.

The demolition work linked to this project was initiated six months ago, however, out of the total 43 buildings only 29 have been demolished so far. The aim of this has been to turn the area into a lucrative hub of living through the construction of houses and shopping malls.

An update on the project was given by Dontrelle Foster, CEO of the housing authority. The update discussed while the project was still in its demolition phase, the underground work had been initiated and was underway. Furthermore, once the completed, the construction of 203 new units for families and senior citizens will be initiated.

The families living in the area before were given the choice to reclaim the new houses if they want to. All these measures have been imposed to step up the current living conditions of the people.

The construction work of this project is predicted to be completed by 2024, however, the unforeseen delays and increasing cost of the building materials were hindering the progress of the project.
